MANHOLETRIP

What does Manholetrip actually mean? It is a journey guided not so much by sightseeing as by collecting. Or maybe I should say searching and collecting. And what? Manhole covers, which are located in almost every town. Just look under your feet. So I walk and search, and when I find one with an interesting design, I spread a canvas on it and do frottage. Why? Because I need it for my Portals project. If you feel unsatisfied, I invite you to this page , where I explain everything. And the above-mentioned frottage/drawing is just the beginning of a larger whole.

Since I started paying attention to manholes, I wanted to collect more and more of them. I have over 20 frottages on paper in my collection. But now that the concept has evolved, I need them on canvas. Is everything starting over? Maybe not over, but there are definitely places I want to go back to and explore. The list below is just a rough sketch. I have to start somewhere.

To my surprise, there are more fans of manholes who take photos and post them on their social media. I must admit that I am very happy that there are others who watch their steps, like me. And thanks to their manhole trips, I now have a better understanding. Some manholes have amazing designs that I would love to have in my Portal project. So I have no choice but to plan such trips. This requires money, time, determination and, above all, willingness. I already have the latter, and the rest will come when the right time comes, when I find the best solutions. Will I be able to do everything? I have no idea. Fortunately, I am driven by the desire to do it, not by compulsion. So I will be happy with each new manhole that enriches my project. Even if I could only afford a Manholetrip once a year, it would be a step forward that I will take. I can’t wait.
I forgot to ask. Maybe you have a photo of the manhole that you would like to share with me? Besides, such help would make it much easier for me to search for the manhole, especially knowing the town, street or some landmark. I would be very happy.
